Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 hungry children that would be raised together eventually, learned very early on how to conquer of difficulties by using her rich and vivid imagination. The songs she wrote were composed before she knew how to read and write. Her first guitar purchase came when she was just 8 years old and started singing at an Knoxville Tenn radio station at age eleven. The following time, Gold Band Records was a tiny independent record label. In high school she established herself in the school community but her goals were bigger. After graduating from high school in 1964 she moved immediately to Nashville. Dumb Blonde was her first single to reach the top of the charts for the first time on Monument Records. Porter Wagoner had been looking for a female singer for his show that was syndicated in the years prior to this. Parton got her first gig in 1967 and signed by RCA Records by 1968, she joined the Grand Ole Opry. In 1974, she quit The Wagoner's Show due to the popularity of her solo songs like Joshua Coats of Many Colors or Jolene was surpassing their joint albums. Parton was a part of the group that split after the end of their partnership with Wagoner she wrote the song"I Will Never Love You and made it to No. It was the first time a single was able to reach No.
