Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public talker. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency an online platform that offers videos and blog posts that analyze portrayals of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as blogger. She was the co-creator and the director executive of Feminist Frequency an educational not-for-profit website that explores representations of women in pop media narratives. Aiming to break down the stereotypes about women and popular culture, she is also working to highlight issues related to harassment targeted at women as well as other classes of online world. Sarkeesian is a graduate in Political and Social Thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after as she has appeared at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in gender issues and feminism since at a very young age. In 2009, when she was still enrolled at university, Sarkeesian launched the site Feminist Frequency. Her website was in the process of launching a collection of online videos that examined the gender representations in video games and was the target of online harassment.
